Craighead Detention Center Overview

The Craighead County Sheriff's Office jail page identifies Craighead County Detention Center as the county's adult local jail. Sheriff Marty Boyd's office operates the facility from the Willett Road sheriff campus in Jonesboro. It houses adult detainees after arrests by the sheriff, Jonesboro Police Department, and other local agencies in Craighead County. The roster may also show people held for failure to appear, nonpayment matters, other agency assists, state-related categories, or federal custody interests when the person is physically housed in the county jail.

The adult jail opened for housing in 1989. The sheriff describes separate classification for felony-status male inmates, misdemeanor-status male inmates, special-needs male inmates, and female felony and misdemeanor inmates in a separate wing. The same jail page also refers to supervising pods for felony, misdemeanor, special-needs housing, and juvenile separation. Classification is the jail's first housing screen. It is not a conviction label, and it does not replace the court record.

Two official capacity figures appear in county sources. The sheriff's jail history says a 2007 booking-department expansion raised total capacity to 360 inmates after earlier maximum-capacity language of 346. The Craighead County government Sheriff's Department page gives an adult capacity of 381. Those figures should be read as separate official source statements, not forced into one number.

Craighead Detention Center Population

The Craighead County RPS roster displayed 365 current inmates on May 28, 2026, with the page showing 10 inmates out of 365 total. That point-in-time count sat above the sheriff's 360 capacity figure and below the county government's 381 adult-capacity figure. Official sources inspected did not publish an average daily population table, annual booking count, aggregate race and age table, or average length of stay for the jail.

The adult jail may include local pretrial detainees, county-sentenced inmates, female and male classification groups, special-needs housing, possible federal prisoners under a U.S. Marshals Service intergovernmental agreement, and state-related Act 309 or waiting-list categories when accepted. A person sentenced to Arkansas prison custody may later move to the Arkansas DOC inmate search, while a federal sentenced inmate belongs in the BOP inmate locator.

Craighead Inmate Roster Lookup

The public jail roster is the main online lookup for Craighead County Detention Center. The sheriff's roster page embeds the RPS interface, and the direct RPS page shows Current Inmates, New Inmates, and Recent Releases. It also has sort controls for arrested date and name, a Select Name list, and page-size options of 10, 20, and 30. No traditional text search box was visible in the captured roster interface, so the roster works like a browse and filter list.

The roster image is useful for understanding the controls, but custody should still be confirmed with the jail when bond, release, transfer, or identity is unclear.

2. Choose Current Inmates for active custody, New Inmates for recent bookings, or Recent Releases for a short release check.
3. Sort by Name or Arrested Date, then use Select Name or a larger page size to scan faster.
4. Read the entry for name, mugshot thumbnail, race, sex, age, address field, arrest date, arresting agency, charges, and bond if listed.
5. If the person is not found, call the automated jail service or booking department before assuming release.

Not every important field appears on the public list. The captured public roster did not show booking numbers, cell assignments, full dates of birth, full street addresses, exact housing units, or a guaranteed court date field in the text-captured web list. Craighead Detention Center Contact

Use the jail contacts for booking and custody questions, not a city police department, once a person has been booked into Craighead County Detention Center. A roster entry may say Jonesboro Police Department made the arrest, but housing, bond posting, property release, mail routing, and facility visit rules are handled through the jail or the court that controls the case.

Public office hours shown in the sheriff footer are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The jail is a detention facility, and the sheriff publishes a 24-hour non-emergency line. For newly arrested people who have not appeared online, the booking department is the most specific published jail contact.

Craighead Jail Visitation

The adult jail's published visitation rule is direct: the sheriff says there is no longer in-person visitation. Family and friends use JailATM for online video visitation, and the same service is used for inmate messaging. A visitor should not travel to the Willett Road campus expecting a normal day-room visit unless the jail has given a separate instruction for a specific situation.

Video visitation is different from telephone service. JailATM covers visits and messages, while Correct Solutions and RegentPay are tied to inmate phone account support. Confirm custody on the roster before paying for any communication service.

Craighead Jail Mail and Money

Adult jail communication and money rules use several separate vendors. Mail is routed through the JailATM address format published by the sheriff. Phone questions go through Correct Solutions or RegentPay. Commissary and trust deposits use Tiger Commissary. Bond is separate from all of those services and is handled through the sheriff's lobby process, nCourt, card terminal, money order, or cashier's check.

Use the Tiger service for commissary or trust funds only. A commissary deposit does not pay bond and does not release an inmate.

Craighead Booking and Bond

Booking begins after an arresting agency brings a person to the jail. The public roster then may show the person's name, mugshot thumbnail, race, sex, age, address field, arrested date and time, arresting agency, charge text, and bond if entered. The jail also has medical staff under a supervising Medical Director, and classification separates felony, misdemeanor, special-needs, female, and juvenile categories.

Bond can be posted online through the nCourt page linked by the sheriff, at the Sheriff's Office lobby kiosk, by card terminal, or by money order or cashier's check made to Craighead County. The sheriff says no personal checks are accepted. The lobby bond kiosk accepts only $100, $20, $10, and $5 bills and does not give change. The sheriff also warns that separate lobby kiosks have different purposes, so the sign above the machine matters.

The nCourt Craighead bond page says nCourt is not the official District Court website and charges an additional service fee. Payment may not release a person if a no-bond order, agency hold, federal hold, probation or parole hold, or ICE detainer controls custody. The local sheriff scam warning is also relevant: the Sheriff's Office says it will not call to demand warrant or jury-duty payment by Cash App, Venmo, Green Dot, or similar channels.

The adult roster is a custody index, not a complete court file. For a booking record, mugshot copy, arrest report, jail record, incident report, or property-release question not resolved online, use the Sheriff's Office FOI Request tab on the Craighead County FOI request page. The form asks for name, email, phone, requested information, and preferred delivery method, with choices such as email, on-site inspection, CD copies, fax, pickup, or regular mail.

Craighead Detention Center Conditions

The sheriff's jail page says medical staff work under a supervising Medical Director for emergency medical needs. Meal service is contracted to Tiger Correctional Services, which the sheriff connects to Criminal Detention Facility Review Commission mandates for caloric intake and special dietary needs by class. Arkansas criminal detention standards apply to adult criminal detention facilities and cover operational topics such as records, inspections, training, food, health, housing, and safety.

Recent public reporting focused on crowding pressure. KAIT8 reported in March 2025 that the detention center suspended its Act 309 program, and Jonesboro Right Now reported in May 2025 that Northeast Arkansas Career and Technical Center students were building new bunks to help with jail overcrowding. Those reports support a careful local statement that crowding was a public issue in 2025. Official sources inspected did not show a federal consent decree, active DOJ investigation, official death-in-custody finding, or current aggregate demographic report for the facility.
